Theft at Keane Vintage

A chatty shoplifter made off with more than $600 worth of merchandise from Keane Vintage on a rainy July 11.

Owner Kathy Keane told GlensideLocal that a woman in her early 20s walked into her shop on that rainy afternoon pulling a suitcase, saying that she was on her way to the train station. The woman spent over an hour in the store, browsing the merchandise while making casual conversation with Kathy. She made a purchase using a credit card and left.

Then Kathy noticed about $600 worth of jewelry missing from the counter display near the register.

With the prospect of losing more money than she expects to make for the whole month, Kathy went in search of the woman who called herself Cara, and said she was heading to the train station.

When she spotted her sitting on the steps at the corner of Glenside and South Keswick, she confronted the woman, asking her to simply return the merchandise but was rebuffed.

Kathy says she notified the police during the confrontation. Because the incident took place in Abington and she called from Cheltenham, she had to return to the store leaving the woman behind. They met her back at her store, saying that they would look into it.

An officer from the Abington Police told Kathy they would investigate.
