6ABC has provided additional details regarding the Warminster Township Police Department’s search for fraud suspects who targeted an elderly victim last month.

According to their coverage, the scheme bilked a 75-year-old man out of $35,000 and was described as “one of the most elaborate fraud cases [Warminster police] have handled”.

According to the police report, the victim was transported to multiple Hatboro Federal Saving Bank locations to withdraw funds on June 15. The cash was then picked up by other unknown individuals from the victim’s home.

The victim told police he had been contacted by someone pretending to represent the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The suspects then instructed him to tell bank employees the money was for home renovations, 6ABC said.

The bank’s President and Chief Executive Officer Linda Roehner released the following statement:

While we cannot discuss any specific customer matter, we can say that financial scams targeting seniors remain a serious and growing concern. … Our bank works diligently to help protect customers from fraud and financial exploitation. In addition to monitoring for potential warning signs, we provide presentations and educational outreach to retirement communities, community centers, libraries, and other local organizations to help raise awareness…
