2 controlled hunts in Alverthorpe Park in Abington scheduled for Jan. 20, Jan. 24

Abington Township announced today that it has approved two controlled archery hunts in Alverthorpe Park on Tuesday, January 20 and Saturday, January 24.

The park will be closed to the public during the designated hours listed below. Officials said closure signage will be posted at all park entrances in advance and that Abington police will be on site before, during, and after each hunt to ensure public safety.

All wooded areas will be secured and inspected prior to reopening the park, officials said.

Hunt & Park Closure Times

▪️ Hunting will begin at 4:00 a.m.
▪️ Hunting will conclude by approximately 1:00 p.m.
▪️ The park will reopen to the public no later than 2:00 p.m.

“The deer management program is performed by competent, experienced, and carefully screened archers who follow strict safety protocols. No firearms or guns of any kind are used in this program. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as the Township works to responsibly manage the deer population and maintain the safety of park users and surrounding neighborhoods. The safety of our residents is the Township’s highest priority,” the township said.
