The Jenkintown School District has decided to cancel the rest of its varsity football season, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported today.

According to their coverage, the decision was made due to “safety concerns from low participation”. Principal Thomas Roller and athletic director Aubrie Breisblatt said in a letter on Tuesday that the team didn’t have enough players “nor enough active participation, to safely play a whole season”.

“Continuing to compete under these circumstances would place significant physical demands on a limited number of players,” they wrote.

The team played two games before the announcement, though the program will continue to hold practices in the hopes of rebuilding for future years.

The decision to cancel came from the head coach’s recommendation, The Inquirer said.
