In celebration of Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 4 to 10, fire companies across Montgomery County are inviting residents to a series of free, family-friendly events. This year’s campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety. Safe Charging is a Superpower,” focuses on everyday charging habits that can reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

The campaign’s driving message, “Plug in, Power up, Stay safe,” highlights how basic battery safety can save lives. Knowing how to safely purchase, charge, and use your household devices makes all the difference.

“We charge our devices every day, but doing it safely is how we protect our homes,” said President of the Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association, Chris Schwarts. “Celebrate Fire Prevention Week by attending your local fire company’s community event to learn essential safety tips and connect with your neighborhood firefighters.”

Centre Square Fire Company

·         When: Friday, October 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

·         Location: Centre Square Fire Company, 1298 Skippack Pike, Blue Bell.

·         Details: This event will feature interactive stations, demonstrations, fire safety education, a meet-and-greet with local first responders, free giveaways, and food.

Wissahickon Fire Company

·         When: Monday, October 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

·         Location: Wissahickon Fire Company, Station 7, 245 E Race Street, Ambler.

·         Details: Spend the evening meeting the firefighters, exploring the fire trucks, and learning about fire safety. Enjoy fire truck rides, food, and refreshments.

Abington Township Fire Department

The five fire companies of the Abington Township Fire Department will be hosting open houses throughout the week from 6 to 9 p.m.

·         Monday, October 5: Abington Fire Company, 1920 Horace Ave, Abington.

·         Tuesday, October 6: McKinley Fire Company, 893 Jenkintown Road, Elkins Park.

·         Wednesday, October 7: Roslyn Fire Company, 1138 Bradfield Road, Roslyn.

·         Thursday, October 8: Weldon Fire Company, 412 N. Easton Road, Glenside.

·         Friday, October 9: Edge Hill Fire Company, 2843 Limekiln Pike, Glenside.

·         Details: Meet local firefighters, explore fire trucks, watch fire safety demonstrations, learn smoke alarm and home safety information, and receive giveaways and community resources.

Spring Mill, Barren Hill, Harmonville, and Plymouth Fire Companies, and Conshohocken Fire Department

·         When: Thursday, October 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.

·         Location: Colonial Elementary School, 230 Flourtown Road, Plymouth Meeting.

·         Details: This event will cover all things fire prevention, fire safety education displays, and live demonstrations. Enjoy giveaways.

New Hanover Volunteer Fire and Rescue

·         When: Thursday, October 8 from 6 to 9 p.m.

·         Location: New Hanover Volunteer Fire and Rescue, 2154 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville.

·         Details: This event will feature a smoke room, fire truck rides, a stove fire demo, first responder vehicles, car seat inspections, vehicle rescue technicians, and a chance to win a fire truck ride to school.

Penn Wynne Fire Company

·         When: Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

·         Location: Penn Wynne Fire Company, 1440 Manoa Road, Wynnewood.

·         Details: Visit the fire station for an open house.

Huntingdon Valley Fire Company

·         When: Saturday, October 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

·         Location: Huntingdon Valley Fire Company, 636 Red Lion Road, Huntingdon Valley.

·         Details: Participate in hands-on fire safety activities, learn about smoke alarms and home safety, tour the fire trucks, see the Bryn Athyn Fire Company ambulance, and receive giveaways.  

Fort Washington Fire Company

·         When: Monday, October 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

·         Location: Upper Dublin High School, 800 Loch Alsh Ave, Fort Washington.

·         Details: Watch and learn from these demonstrations: dryer fire, stove fire, vehicle rescue, and a live burn. Explore all kinds of fire trucks, a medical helicopter, and meet local firefighters and first responders.

Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company

·         When: Wednesday, October 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.

·         Location: GIANT at Henderson Shopping Center, 310 Henderson Road, King of Prussia.

·         Details: This event will feature demonstrations, divers, fire trucks, live fire, giveaways, and more.

Gilbertsville Fire and Rescue

·         When: Thursday, October 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.

·         Location: Gilbertsville Fire and Rescue, 1454 Philadelphia Avenue, Gilbertsville.

·         Details: Visit the station for an open house and learn more about fire prevention.

Elkins Park Fire Company

·         When: Saturday, October 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.

·         Location: Elkins Park Fire Company, 7818 Montgomery Ave, Elkins Park.

·         Details: This event will feature firefighting and rescue skill demonstrations and fire prevention and fire safety education displays. Enjoy light refreshments.
