Ramon Garcia, a former medical assistant at Carbon Health Urgent Care location in Jenkintown who is accused of groping, spying on, and sexually assaulting more than a dozen women while posing as a nurse, waived his preliminary hearing, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported today.

His attorney said Garcia came to the decision to spare his accusers the trauma of testifying, which he viewed as “the first step in [his] path to redemption,” the Inquirer said.

“He is aware of what he’s accused of. We’re looking forward to getting him evaluated to explain the aberrations in his otherwise crime-free life,” Lang said of Garcia. “He’s a father of six. He has never been in trouble before in his life. And he is going to be working on these issues in his life.”

Prosecutor Lauren Marvel says he used his job to touch and grope these women “under the guise of medical treatment, but it was for his sexual gratification.”

An investigation began in March when a woman told Abington Township police that she was assaulted by Garcia during a preemployment drug screening, according to the affidavit of probable cause for his arrest.

He was arrested on March 12 for Aggravated Indecent Assault (2nd degree felony), Indecent Assault, and (2) counts of Invasion of Privacy. 

On April 12, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy announced that 24 felony and misdemeanor criminal charges involving 12 additional victims had been filed against Garcia.

Garcia, 33, is charged with aggravated indecent assault, impersonating a licensed professional, invasion of privacy, harassment, and related crimes, the Inquirer said. He remained in custody as of today in lieu of a combined $249,000 bail.

A formal arraignment is scheduled for June 12 in Norristown.
