Winter Storm Petra

The Borough of Jenkintown has issued the following notice concerning tomorrow’s storm, which also applies to Cheltenham, Abington, and surrounding towns. Nothing in here about stocking up on every available loaf of bread and gallon of milk, though.

The Public Works Department has prepared for the inclement weather currently forecast to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, February 20th. The storm’s current forecast is to begin with snow tomorrow morning and then turn into a wintry mix tomorrow evening. We are currently anticipating a plowable event so if you own a driveway please park in the driveway, if you do not own a driveway please park close to the curb to allow the plow trucks  clear access to the roadway.

The roads will be slippery throughout the storm and while salting operations are taking place. All equipment is operational and Public Works will be monitoring the conditions throughout the storm and responding as needed. If you must go outside or travel please use caution.

  • Safety measures in the event of a power outage: There is always the possibility of a power outage due to the high winds that accompany a storm.  If you use a power generator, please make sure the generator is located outside in the open air for proper ventilation.  Any portable heaters or candles that may be used in the event of a power outage should not be located near anything flammable.
  • Aqua Pennsylvania has provided the Borough with information on how to avoid frozen pipes, that information can be found here. As the homeowner, you are responsible for the protection of your home’s pipes and meters and for any damage to them.
  •  PECO: Customers experiencing any issues should contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141, peco.com or PECO Smart Mobile On-the-Go, the company’s mobile enhanced website.

Should you have an emergency, please dial 911 and please use the non-emergency Jenkintown Police Department number at (215) 884-1200.
