Vanwa Torrey, 27, of Philadelphia has been sentenced to prison for a road rage incident in Upper Moreland Township during which Torrey pointed a gun at a female driver and robbed her cellphone.
The incident took place near the Willow Grove Shopping Center on York Road near Davisville Road on February 27. At around 7:00am, Upper Moreland police received a report of “an armed road-rage incident”, according to a criminal complaint filed by Upper Moreland Detective Mark Bouldin.
Arriving officers found a “visibly upset, shaking and crying” woman who stated “a man operating a silver Honda Accord was driving recklessly northbound on York Road, pulled in front of her Chevrolet SUV and applied his brakes, causing her to collide with his vehicle in the unit block of North York Road, according to the criminal complaint,” Main Line Media News wrote.
Torrey reportedly “approached her vehicle, pointed a gun at her and demanded her phone,” detectives said. Torrey then opened her driver’s side door and took her cellphone before fleeing the area in his vehicle.
According to Main Line Media News, Torrey’s sentence of 11.5 to 23 months in the county jail came after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of robbery. He has been ordered to complete one year of probation following parole.
