Mr. Morris David Weiss, long physical education and health teacher at Upper Moreland Junior High and Middle School, passed away on November 14, 2025. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Weiss retired from the classroom in 1993. From his obituary:
His devotion to UM extended beyond teaching: he served as UM Parks & Recreation Director, Middle School Athletic Director, and Aquatics Director from the opening of the pool until 2003. He also coached football, wrestling, and track & field, inspiring generations of athletes.
One of Morrie’s greatest legacies was teaching swimming to beginners—passing along this lifesaving skill to three generations of Upper Moreland children. He also taught adult evening classes and, alongside Betty, served as Activities Director at the Upper Moreland Swim Club. Another UM community program he avidly supported was Cinekyd, fostering cinematic creativity in children—including his daughter, Cindi—to produce their own films from 1976 to 1982.
Mr. Weiss served in the United States Army and the Naval Reserves, receiving honorable discharges from both branches. He went on to graduate from Lock Haven State College in 1960 and later earned his master’s degree at Temple University, his obituary said.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Sunday February 1, 2026 from 2-4pm at Upper Moreland Middle School, 4000 Orangemans Rd in Hatboro. You can RSVP here.
