Ryan Schernecke, a Hatboro native, Upper Moreland High School graduate, and a one-time All-American offensive tackle for the Kutztown University football team, has signed a professional contract with the New York Giants, Sports Illustrated reported today.
Schernecke, 6’7″ and 320 pounds, went to the Giants through the undrafted free agency pool at the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft last week. According to Spotrac.com, he signed a “3 year, $3,135,000 contract with the New York Giants, including $35,000 signing bonus, $282,500 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $1,045,000. In 2026, Schernecke will earn a base salary of $885,000 and a signing bonus of $35,000, while carrying a cap hit of $896,666 and a dead cap value of $282,500.”
In December, he was named a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award and “was the driving force behind an offensive line that ranked fifth in the nation in fewest sacks allowed, with 0.69 per game,” Sports Illustrated said.
An excerpt from Sports Illustrated’s coverage:
He looks like the type of offensive tackle that you would expect to see in a John Harbaugh-style offense.
In a year when many offensive linemen from Power 5 schools lacked the ideal prototype for an NFL offensive lineman or offensive tackle, Schernecke stood out even more than usual.
Schernecke’s height and reach are superior to those of many players drafted in the previous seven rounds. If length is indeed strength, then he has it in spades.
Schernecke is one of those young players who, in all likelihood, will go into the developmental pipeline that the Giants currently lack.
There are tools to be had and developed, but given that he’s coming from a smaller school program where he stood as a man among boys, the learning curve stands to be a bit steeper to bring him up to speed at the NFL level.
