Three Cheltenham grads seeing professional success: Bob Scholly, Jr. (1981), Joel Bless (1970), Lt. Anne McGoldrick (2015)

Local historian Chuck Langerman has highlighted the current professional statuses of three Cheltenham alumni:

Bob Scholly, Jr. (above left)

Scholly, a 1981 Cheltenham High School graduate, is the full-time Fire Marshal/Emergency Management Coordinator in Lower Moreland Township.

Scholly has been a volunteer for the Glenside Fire Department since 1981 and is a graduate of Montgomery County Community College where he earned an associate’s degree in Fire Science.

In the photo above is Bob’s father, Bob Scholly, Sr., a 1957 graduate of Cheltenham High. Mr. Scholly served 60 years with the Glenside Fire Department until his retirement in 2017. The former Cheltenham Township Police detective served on the fire department as a Lieutenant for two years, Captain for nine years, Deputy Chief for four years, and Chief for eight years.

Fun Fact: Eight members of the Scholly family have served with the Glenside fire Department, all of whom graduated from Cheltenham and Abington high schools.

Joel Bless (above middle)

Bless, a 1970 graduate of Cheltenham High School, is a professional glassblower and owner of Glasslight Studio in St. Peters, PA, with his wife Candace. Bless first began studying glassblowing while attending the Rochester Institute of Technology and continued his studies at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.

He currently makes a wide range of handmade glass lighting products in a variety of styles and develops new techniques for creating functional art. At Cheltenham High, Bless was a starting halfback on the 1968 and 1969 Panther football teams.

Lieutenant Anne McGoldrick (above right)

Lieutenant McGoldrick is a 2015 Cheltenham High School graduate and United States Coast Guard officer.

At Cheltenham High, McGoldrick was a two-time Academic All-American and Holden Award winner and captain of the lacrosse and field hockey teams.

She went on to matriculate at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, where she played lacrosse, graduating in 2019.

In 2023, the Glenside native was promoted to Lieutenant.
