Three additional Cheltenham students named recipients of Ian McGuire Music Scholarship Fund

The Ian McGuire Music Scholarship Fund (IMMSF) has announced the recipients of its inaugural scholarship awards. Four outstanding students from Cheltenham High School, the alma mater of the late Ian McGuire, have each been awarded $1,000 to nurture their musical talents.

The students, Mason Williams, Anastasia Owens, Ijeoma Ojukwu, and Myles Daniels, have displayed exceptional musical talent and dedication. IMMSF’s collaboration with Cheltenham is the beginning of a broader vision to partner with schools, organizations, and talented individuals nationwide. Matthew A. Berntsen, Cheltenham High School’s Music Department Chair, assisted in determining this year’s recipients, with students submitting impactful essays with their applications.

“I know I speak for my colleagues—Matt Hoy [Orchestra Director] and Maddy Parkes [CHS Vocal Arts Director]—that being able to provide students with the opportunity to greatly enhance their musical learning experience through lessons will help them immensely,” said Bernsten. He continued, “Not only will these students grow into better musicians, but their peers around them will benefit, and in turn, our entire music program at CHS will as well.”

Ian McGuire, an accomplished Philadelphia musician and dedicated piano teacher, left an indelible mark on the world of music. As a Berklee College of Music graduate in 2005, he contributed significantly to the music community through his involvement in various bands and unwavering commitment to music education.

“We are profoundly honored to celebrate Ian’s memory by empowering these exceptional young musicians,” said Dennis McGuire, co-founder of IMMSF. “Our belief in the transformative power of music drives us to support the future of music education.”

These scholarships will provide invaluable support to the recipients as they pursue their musical aspirations, whether it be acquiring instruments, receiving lessons, or participating in music programs.

The public is encouraged to join IMMSF in congratulating these talented individuals and supporting their future musical achievements by following the announcements on IMMSF’s social media platforms and website.
