The Yankee Chipper to close for good on Jan. 31, building up for rent

The Yankee Chipper, an Irish-style BYOB restaurant in Wyndmoor since July 2021, will close its doors for good on January 31.

Owners Eric Connor and Shana Cox told The Irish Star, “It was a hard decision but it had to be made. I’m filled with a real sense of gratitude for the support I’ve had, the opportunity to serve the Irish community here and to promote traditional Irish culture and food the best I could. It’s a shame The Chipper didn’t catch on better but I’m proud of what we’ve achieved.

“I come from a big Irish family so to have Irish music, Irish dancers, and Irish food fill The Chipper was a real pleasure. I’m so grateful for those who have reached out and supported me through this time. It was a dream come true.”

Live entertainment has been a regular feature at the pub: Wednesdays are a mainstay for local performers and traditional Irish music sessions, and semi-regular appearances include John Byrne, Gerry Timlin and Andy Keenan, well-known Irish singer/songwriters.

Eric, a carpenter and construction worker by trade, is hanging up his apron to focus on his contracting business and spend more time with family. Eric and Shana will continue to brew their own beer for local breweries and distributors.

The Chipper will host a closing party on Wednesday, January 31, featuring Co Tyrone musician Ray Coleman.

The building at 827 E Pleasant Avenue in Wyndmoor will be up for rent but the premises are not for sale, the Star said.
