Sunny, warm weather expected to become rainy, cooler, and windy by Thursday

The National Weather Service is predicting a shift this week from sunny and warm to rainy and cool.

Today’s weather reached 79 degrees at the Philadelphia airport, which is the warmest day of the year so far, the NWS said.

“It looks like it’ll be at least several days, if not a week or more, before we get this warm again,” the NWS said in a Facebook post.

According to their forecast, showers are possible beginning early Wednesday morning until Thursday night’s storms, which “could produce heavy rain.” Winds of 25 to 30 mph are also expected with gusts as high as 45 mph, the agency said.

Friday’s forecast returns to possible showers “and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am,” the forecast said.

A chance of showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. South wind around 5 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday

A chance of showers, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night

A slight chance of showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday

Showers likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 70. Breezy, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday Night

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Low around 59. Windy, with a south wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday

Showers likely before 8am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
