Several greater Glenside superintendents earn top 40 salaries in Pennsylvania

According to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s 2025-26 Professional Personnel Individual Staff Report, superintendents in greater Glenside continue to land among the highest paid in the state.

875 school leaders were included in the report. The top thirteen salaries are all from Philadelphia collar counties.

Dr. Jeffrey S. Fecher of Abington School District is the 17th highest-paid superintendent in Pennsylvania at $279,256, up from $255,000 in 2024. Assistant superintendent Dr. James Melchor receives $233,955.

Dr. Maryjo Yannacone of Springfield Township School District is the 31st high-paid superintendent in Pennsylvania at $261,866.00. She is followed by Dr. Susan Elliott, Upper Moreland Township School District, at $259,285.00 (38th in the state). Upper Moreland’s assistant superintendent Lawrence Cannon earns $209,254.00.

Dr. Laurie Smith, Upper Dublin School District, receives $250,442.00, followed by Dr. Brian Scriven, Cheltenham School District, at $244,077.00 (62nd in the state). Dr. Shavon Savage, Cheltenham’s assistant superintendent, receives $205,000.00.

Dr. Dennis Best of Lower Moreland Township School District is paid $234,000.00. Lower Moreland’s assistant superintendent Julia Henrich is paid $202,800.00.

Dr. Jill Takacs, former superintendent of the Jenkintown School District, was paid $219,169.00 prior to her retirement.

The state’s highest salary is Philadelphia School District’s Dr. Tony Watlington, who makes $367,710. The average salary is $171,825, according to the report.
