Dr. Michael Mittelman, president of Salus University in Elkins Park, joined NBC10’s Erin Coleman to discuss the 15th annual Looking Out for Kids charity event at 6:30pm on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
The fundraiser supports The Eye Institute (TEI) of Salus University, which has provided vision care and eyeglasses to thousands of economically disadvantaged children from Philadelphia, Norristown, Abington, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, Chester, Souderton, Bristol, and Upper Darby.
“We work with school nurses, we screen children for vision problems and hearing problems, and if they do in fact have issues, we bring them to our Eye Institute, we do a full comprehensive examination, and then if they need glasses, we provide them with 2-3 pairs,” Mittelman said. “This program changes children’s lives. This fundraiser supports this mission that we’re providing for the entire region.”
The fundraiser’s focus this year is replacing Salus University’s Mobile Healthcare Unit, also known as the “Big Red Bus.” 2021’s ‘hybrid’ live and virtual event raised over $135,000.
