Dr. David Evans III, OD ‘83 was recently honored posthumously by the Salus University Alumni Association with a 2023 Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. Evans died suddenly in September 2022 while on a fishing trip. His wife, Gail Evans, OD ‘84, accepted the award on his behalf.

“It is an honor. I‘m sure he would be very proud,” Gail said. “His theory — but really our theory as a couple — is we weren’t doing this for us, but for all the optometrists who follow. You work for legislation because you have to take the first step before you can get to the next step. It was always about whoever was going to follow us in the profession.”

Dr. Evans was nominated for POA Optometrist of the Year in 1997, 2013, 2016, and 2018.
