Rockledge Police Department’s Chief John Gallagher recently issued an auto theft alert regarding three stolen vehicles along N. Jarrett Avenue, which runs through Rockledge and Jenkintown boroughs.
According to Chief Gallagher, the vehicles—a 2022 Suzuki motorcycle, a 2013 Hyundai SUV, and a 2006 Chevy pick-up truck—were stolen between August 2 and December 16.
From the announcement:
Video surveillance from the third incident showed what appeared to be a white male possibly getting out of a black-colored Honda Accord or Civic or similar-looking vehicle and then approaching the 2006 Chevy pick-up truck, which was parked in the vehicle owner’s private driveway. It looked like the offender broke the rear window on the passenger side and entered the vehicle. He drove off in that vehicle moments later with the black-colored vehicle, as described above, in tow.
Even though this 2006 Chevy pick-up truck was parked in a residential driveway, please know that it’s recommended that residents park their vehicles in private driveways, if available, because it sometimes does, in fact, deter auto theft and theft from vehicles.
Gallagher offered the following suggestions to avoid theft:
- Park in well-lit areas
- Roll the windows up and lock the vehicle
- Activate vehicle alarm, if equipped
- Use the steering wheel lock, if available
- Periodically check on the vehicle when it’s parked and unattended
- Report crimes in progress and any suspicious activity to police immediately
