The Roslyn Fire Company announced that crews were dispatched to the Willow Grove Park Mall on Saturday, May 2 around 5:00pm for a report of smoke in the building by mall security.
Upon arrival, firefighters evacuated a section of the mall to locate the source of the smoke, officials said. Crews were able to find and quickly extinguish a small fire inside a bathroom in one of the retail stores on the second level.
Firefighters then checked the surrounding area to ensure there was no extension and began ventilating smoke from the building.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Abington Township Fire Marshal’s Office, the post said.
“Incidents like this are a strong reminder of how quickly a situation can develop, especially in a large commercial occupancy,” Roslyn Fire Company’s post said. “Thanks to the fast actions of responding crews and the strong coordination between Roslyn Fire Company and our mutual aid partners, what could have become a much more serious incident was brought under control quickly.”
