Rite Aid in Huntingdon Valley included in list of closures

The Rite Aid at 805 Huntingdon Pike in Huntingdon Valley has been included in a list of 68 locations that are set to close in the near future.

The list was part of a May 9 filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. The company published a list of 47 closing stores in an initial filing.

In a news release announcing the bankruptcy, the pharmacy chain said it is “working to facilitate a smooth transfer of customer prescriptions to other pharmacies.”

On May 15, the company announced that “it has successfully entered into a series of sale agreements and pharmacy services transition agreements.”

The statement continues:

This includes the rolling transition of pharmacy assets from more than 1,000 store locations across the U.S. to operators including CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Albertsons, Kroger, and Giant Eagle, among others, as well as the sale and operation by CVS Pharmacy of many Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs stores located in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Importantly, during the transition, Rite Aid stores will remain open, and customers can continue to access their pharmacy services, including prescription refills and immunizations, without interruption.

In greater Glenside, the store in the Abington Shopping Center closed in October 2023, and the Dreshertown Plaza location closed two months later.

Other locations exist at 1321 Easton Road and 1401 W Cheltenham Avenue.
