Rep. Dean releases six bills aimed at preventing gun violence

Congresswoman Madeleine Dean of Glenside announced today that she has introduced six bills involving the prevention of gun violence:

  • The Undetectable Firearms Modernization Act “to keep ghost guns out of our communities”
  • The Background Check Point of Contact Act “to help states ensure their background check processes are effective”
  • The Protect Children Through Safe Gun Ownership Act “to create requirements and education programs for safe firearm storage”
  • The Fire Sale Loophole Closing Act “to close a loophole that allows people to avoid background checks”
  • The Gun Records Restoration and Prevention Act “to ensure the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) maintains proper records and data”
  • The Gun Violence Prevention Through Financial Intelligence Act “to utilize financial crime prevention tools to predict and prevent mass shootings and terrorist attacks”

“As lawmakers, we have a responsibility to keep our communities — and especially our children — safe,” Dean said in a statement. “Yet the leading cause of death for minors in the U.S. is gun violence. We cannot accept that. This set of meaningful reforms, which improve background checks, close gun sale loopholes, and require safe gun storage, ensure we use every tool at our disposal to curb the gun violence epidemic and save lives.”

Dean previously introduced five of these bills in the 118th Congress, the announcement said. You can read more about her position on the matter here and here.
