Record number of Coronavirus cases in Montgomery County in first part of December

After the first two weeks of December, the Montgomery County COVID-19 Dashboard shows that every day but December 1st recorded a higher one-day number of cases than the record of 200 that was set on April 18th during the early days of the pandemic. The average number of daily cases between December 2nd and December 15th is 464.

However, over the past five days, the numbers are coming down from a peak of 629 to a total of 324 today. The number of daily cases is provided by date in the chart below. The total number of cases across the county since the start of the pandemic is now 27,494.

Thus far in December, there have been 70 deaths due to Coronavirus (including 15 recorded on December 15th) in Montgomery County. There were 33 deaths in November, which was up from a total of six in October. The number of deaths countywide since the start of the pandemic is 941.

The 14-day PCR positive rate is 11.37% as of December 9th. This is up from 8.37% as of November 29th. Having this number at 5% or under is considered suppression of the virus.

In regards to hospitalizations, as of December 14th, there are 536 patients in Montgomery County hospitals due to Coronavirus. This number is down by 10 from December 14th. There are currently 57 patients who require a ventilator, which is up by one from December 14th.

The number of cases from the most recent 14 days is 2,632 more than the 14-days prior. The most recent seven days is 347 less than the previous seven days.

Locally, here are the current numbers:

  • Abington is at 2,023 cases, which is 362 more than since December 4th. There have been 80 deaths, which is four more than since December 4th
  • Cheltenham is 1,437 cases, which is 178 more than since December 4th. There have been 59 deaths, which is three more than since December 4th
  • Jenkintown is at 121 cases, which is 15 more than since December 4th. There has been one death
  • Springfield is at 1,009 cases, which is 101 more than since December 4th. There have been 91 deaths
  • Rockledge is at 106 cases, which is 29 more since December 4th. There has been one death
