In 2024, Keith Szczesniak, owner of Pocket Percussion in Willow Grove, put his first foot forward in trying to install a new mural on the exterior wall of 109 N York Road.
Szczesniak said the idea came after his business relocated to the building in August 2024. He pitched it to the property’s landlord and to Abington Township, both of which gave a green light.
The concept behind the mural’s imagery would be a tribute to Willow Grove Park circa 1920. He commissioned artist Greg Lytle, an Elkins Park/Abington native who operates Hand Over Fist Signs in Glenside, and launched a GoFundMe to help with costs.
Unfortunately, he says the project has been at an impasse due to its expensive nature.
“We were able to raise $1,200 through GoFundMe. The campaign ran its course, so we ended up refunding everyone. We still have approval from the township,” Szczesniak told Glenside Local. “I’d love to get it done, and most people’s objections were that it was expensive, which it was. If we can find a cheaper option, we’ll run another fundraiser.”

Szczesniak said he may reach out to other muralists if the opportunity presents itself.
“I think it’d be great for the community, especially the historical element,” he said. “For now, we’re just focusing on getting the store running. We have studios and lessons going strong. Everything’s pretty much done.”
