PECO letter detailing upgrades, improved service goes out to Cheltenham

PECO is sweeping through Cheltenham Township in an effort to improve its service to residents. The utility plans to install new equipment, perform tree work, and pole replacements among other things.

On June 7, 2019 the Township shared PECO’s announcement on the project to Enhance Electric Service Reliability for Customers in Cheltenham. This project is a result of PECO’s commitment to provide safe and reliable energy for customers and the communities they serve. The project involves  upgrading and installing new equipment to enhance the local electric distribution system in the area

About the PECO project:

  • More than $3 million will be invested to enhance the local electric distribution system for the area
  • Tree work is scheduled to begin in the Summer, and construction will begin soon after the tree trimming is completed.
  • Work will include pole and cable replacements.
  • The majority of this work will occur along Montgomery, Harrison, Union, Cadwalader, and Park Avenues, High School, Ashbourne, Mill, Gerard, Church, Waring, Cedar, Fairview, Westview, Upland, Stahr and Shoemaker Roads.
  • Work will typically occur from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • The project is expected to be completed by the middle of 2020 and work will be performed by a qualified PECO contractor.

Details from PECO:

Crews may need to temporarily interrupt service to safely complete some of this work. We will work with customers to ensure they are informed in advance of our activities and any planned interruptions. We will work closely with local officials to minimize the impact on traffic and pedestrians whenever possible. Access for services such as trash removal, student transportation and emergency vehicles will be maintained during construction.
