The former Ogontz School for Girls in Abington was recently featured in Dirt.com, a real estate news site which covers high-profile transactions.
The article, titled “Priced at $1.7 Million, a Pennsylvania Mansion Was Once Part of Prestigious Girls’ School”, gives an overview of the estate’s early-1900s beginnings until the school’s headmistress donated it to Penn State University in 1950.
According to Dirt.com, the headmistress, Miss Abby Sutherland, issued a challenge before handing over the keys: “Young people of Penn State, Ogontz Center, the devotion of a century of zealous effort, we pass on to you. Care for this place! Love it! Guard here the spirit of the best in your dreams of education!”
