According to a statement from the Borough of Jenkintown, West Avenue – between Greenwood and Florence Avenues – was closed to all through-traffic starting yesterday. The statement indicated that the roadway should be re-opened to through-traffic on Tuesday morning after 9:00 AM.
“This closure will allow for PECO to install a gas main for Beaver Hill’s West Building,” according to the statement. “During this time, businesses will have access to their parking structures.”
“The Borough has been notified that the Beaver Hill West Building experienced a major exterior gas leak on Saturday night, [thus] this required securing the gas to the West building,” the statement continued. “The residents of those 104 condos have been without heat since that action was taken on Saturday afternoon.”
According to the Jenkintown Borough, “PECO, Montgomery County, Borough Emergency Management, and Borough Administration have assisted and made themselves available to the Beaver Hill Condo Association…[which] is managing this serious situation. It is hoped that the new gas main will be installed and heat returned to those building occupants expeditiously.”
