PA Treasurer Garrity, who is running for governor, receives unannounced welcome from President Trump during fundraiser, shares thoughts on Gov. Shapiro

Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity, who is vying for the governorship this year, received an unannounced welcome from President Donald Trump during a fundraiser at The Mar-A-Lago Club (which Trump owns) in Palm Beach, Florida on Friday, March 27.

Trump, who publicly endorsed Garrity in late January, greeted the state treasurer and shared why he favors her over Governor Josh Shapiro in the 2026 election.

“I gave [Garrity] an endorsement, she should win,” Trump said. “I am very unimpressed by Shapiro. I watched him on an interview … he’s a stiff.”

Garrity’s campaign cleared six-figures in proceeds from the event and secured commitments for future fundraisers, according to reports.

Garrity, 61, a retired U.S. Army colonel and former corporate executive, announced her bid for the Republican nomination in August. Pennsylvania Republican Party leaders endorsed her in September.

According to their coverage, Garrity’s gubernatorial campaign won’t clarify where she stands on ICE detention centers.

A spokesperson for Garrity told Spotlight PA that she “will work with any president in the best interests of Pennsylvania, regardless of party,” when asked several specific questions about her stance on the plans and how she would work with the Trump administration on the issue.

Garrity, who received an endorsement from President Donald Trump in late January, said “it’s best to cooperate” with ICE during an interview in February. Her opponent, Governor Josh Shapiro of Abington Township, called for ICE and the Border Patrol to leave Minneapolis during an interview in late January with Good Morning America.
