The Old York Road Historical Society will host “Poquessing Trail of History” by Jack McCarthy on November 12 at 7:30pm at Abington Friends Meeting’s The John Barnes Room (520 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown) or virtually on Zoom.
From the description:
The Byberry area of Far Northeast Philadelphia has an incredibly rich and diverse history. Come hear Poquessing Trail of History Project Director Jack McCarthy speak on this exciting initiative that will activate four historic sites in Byberry through historic restoration and interpretation: the Benjamin Rush birthplace house, the Byberry Township African American Burial Ground, Byberry Hall, and a memorial to the area’s original inhabitants, the Lenape.
Jack McCarthy is a longtime Philadelphia archivist and historian who has held leadership positions at several area history organizations and directed a number of major public history projects. He is co-founder of the Northeast Philadelphia History Network and was president of the Friends of Northeast Philadelphia History from 2012 to 2024.

Log-in information will be posted by noon the day of the event. Lectures are not recorded for later playback. The lecture series is sponsored by a grant from the Jenkintown Lyceum. For more information please call the Old York Road Historical Society at 215-886-8590.
