The El Limon at 222 N. York Road in Hatboro reopened for business on Wednesday, October 29.
The location opened in 2022 and temporarily closed in May. In July, the restaurant was issued a notice of violation for operating a commissary kitchen, which is not permitted under current zoning allowances.
Borough manager Diane Hegele told Glenside Local that the restaurant is now functioning as takeout only along with the commissary kitchen. The borough approved a settlement Monday night.
“We filed a zoning review and wrote them a letter, which they appealed. They went before the Zoning Hearing Board in July, which ruled in their favor and said the kitchen was fine to operate in the business district,” Hegele said. “Because the borough would like storefronts to be retail, borough council decided to appeal the decision. As we went through the process, El Limon decided not to go any further and said they will reopen.”
According to Hegele, the borough and El Limon agreed to resolve the land use matter as follows:
Within three months of approval of this Stipulation by the parties, Property Owner shall reopen an El Limon Restaurant at the Subject Property to its prior capacity including take out operations and it shall continue to operate the restaurant and take out facility along with the existing commissary kitchen.
Ownership made the announcement yesterday on Instagram. Their hours are 10:30am – 10:00pm daily, a manager told Glenside Local.
