Abington man, father of 3, fatally stabbed in Philadelphia

Jean Schultz Laurent Jr., 51, of Abington Township, was fatally stabbed early Tuesday morning while on the way to work in the Cedarbrook section of Philadelphia, 6ABC reported today.

According to their coverage, Laurent had just gotten off a bus when he was attacked. Surveillance video showed two men finding him and giving him CPR before he was transported to a hospital, where he died a short time later from a puncture wound to the chest.

The suspect, later identified as 48-year-old Scott Hilton, fled the scene and was arrested on Wednesday. He faces murder and other charges, 6ABC said.

Family members told 6ABC that Laurent had arrived in the United States less than two years ago. He was fleeing violence in Haiti and was described as a professor and author who wanted to teach French to college students once he became fluent in English. He was married with three children, the youngest of whom is three years old.

Police have not released information about a possible motive, though Hilton has a criminal history, including charges of assault, harassment, stalking and robbery.
