An oil painting acquired by the late Joseph Early Widener of Lynnewood Hall in Elkins Park will be up for auction on June 2.
According to the lot’s advertisement, the painting is estimated to be sold for $40,000 – $60,000 and was created by Jacque-Laurent Agasse (Geneva 1767-1849 London).

A man with a pack of greyhounds before a kennel, a landscape beyond, traditionally identified as George Pitt (1751-1828), 2nd Baron Rivers
Joseph Early Widener acquired the painting “by descent to his son, Peter Arrell Browne Widener II (1894-1948) and his wife, Josephine ‘Fifi’ Widener Bigelow (1902-1961), Lynnewood Hall, Elkins Park, PA, and by descent to their daughter, Joan Leidy Ray, née Widener (1923-1988), and by descent to her son, George Eustis Paine III (1932-2001), and by descent to the present owner,” the advertisement says.
