Next week is National Fire Prevention week, and fire departments throughout Abington and Cheltenham will have open houses at their fire stations, see schedule below.
This year’s National Fire Prevention Association Fire Prevention Week theme, “Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire can happen anywhere,” focuses on three steps people can take to reduce the chances of a fire starting, and how to escape safely if a fire happens.
ABINGTON Open Houses from 10/8 to 10/12
Abington Township Fire Department’s five volunteer fire companies Abington, McKinley, Roslyn, Weldon, and Edge Hill will provide families with important information that can literally save their homes or even their lives. Abington will have an open house every day next week, one at each firehouse, from October 8 to October 12.
The activities will include: firetrucks and live demonstrations, snacks, and safety tips from Abington Township Fire Departments (A.T.F.D.). Children will learn how to safely escape a smoke-filled space by doing so in the safety of A.T.F.D.’s smokehouse, a trailer that fills with cool and harmless “smoke.” Children and interested parents can also put out a small, contained fire using a fire extinguisher, an experience that’s a confidence booster if a real need should arise.
