Mrs. Barbara Morgen Wertheimer, longtime Abington Township Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board member, has passed away at 74

Mrs. Barbara Ann Morgen Wertheimer, a longtime Abington Township Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board member and former leader of the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy in Philadelphia, passed away on Friday, January 9. She was 74 years old.

Mrs. Wertheimer grew up in New Jersey before attending Douglas College at Rutgers University and New England School of Law in Boston where she earned her J.D., her obituary said. She then lived in Rydal for 29 years with her family, during which time she served on Abington’s Planning and Zoning boards.

In 2005, she was named the executive director of Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy where she “worked tirelessly and with the utmost compassion to enhance the programs at Pegasus, ultimately touching the lives of thousands of riders and their families,” her obituary said.

Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11 AM precisely at Congregation Adath Jeshurun, 7763 Old York Road, Elkins Park, PA 19027. Interment Montefiore Cemetery, Jenkintown, PA. Color/festive attire encouraged at her request.

Shiva will be observed Tuesday following interment at the late residence with Minyan at 7 PM. Shiva will continue at the late residence Wednesday from 2 PM – 4 PM, and after 5:30 PM with Minyan at 7 PM. Shiva will also be observed on Thursday at 5:30 PM at the Parc Rittenhouse Condos, 225 South 18th Street, Philadelphia with Minyan at 7 PM.
