Mr. Thomas F. Hughes, a Glenside resident, veteran, and philanthropist, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 7. He was 78.

Mr. Hughes completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, during which he earned a Silver Star and two Purple Hearts, his obituary said. In Glenside, he organized charity events with the Flaherty Knights of Columbus for decades, assisted the Abington-based Kevin from Heaven Foundation, and allowed Bishop McDevitt alumni to create the McDevitt Room in early 2024.

From the Kevin from Heaven Foundation’s post:

On behalf of the Foundation, we would like to extend our condolences to the Hughes Family. The Kevin from Heaven Foundation is in our 15th year and it wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support from Tom and Cathy Hughes, who supported us from Day 1. Tom and Cathy helped us get off the ground and never once said no to anything we asked of them. They opened their doors to us and whatever we asked for we got! Their selflessness, loyalty, and devotion to their community and the Kevin from Heaven Foundation was unmatched! Thank you Tom and Cathy for Keeping the Phaith!

Relatives and friends are invited to great the family Tues., July 15th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 2316 Fairhill Ave. (at Easton Rd.), Glenside, PA 19038. Funeral Mass to follow beginning at 11:30 AM. Int. will be private.
