Mr. Robert S. Wilmot, Jr., Springfield Township High School graduate, former fire consultant and Chief of the Flourtown Fire Company, has passed away at 78

Mr. Robert “Bob” S. Wilmot, Jr., an Erdenheim native, 1965 graduate of Springfield Township High School, former fire consultant and Chief of the Flourtown Fire Company, passed away on Thursday, February 19. He was 78.

Mr. Wilmot joined the Fort Washington Fire Company in 1966 and the Flourtown Fire Company in 1965, serving as a lieutenant, captain, assistant Chief, and Chief (1980-1995) over a 63-year career, his obituary said.

He served as a member of the Montgomery County Radio Committee, the Springfield Township Emergency Management Service Board, was a life member of the Montgomery County Fire Chiefs Association, and a founding member of the Montgomery County Critical Incident Street Management Team.

Mr. Wilmot was an early member of the Montgomery County Fire Advisory Board and was involved in the original development of the Montgomery County Fire Academy. He was also a member and former president of the Springfield Township Historical Society, his obituary said.

A 1988 graduate of Montgomery County Community College, Mr. Wilmot went on to become a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and a member of the National Fire Protection Association. He started his own consulting business providing fire safety training to nursing home and childcare facilities before retiring in 2025, his obituary said.

Mr. Wilmot retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of service from the Fort Washington office.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler. Mr. Wilmot’s funeral services will begin at 3:00pm followed by a memorial gathering at Sandy Run Country Club at 4:00pm (a date was not mentioned in the obituary).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flourtown Fire Company at 1526 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, 19031 or Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia.
