Mr. Brian Conway, Glenside resident, Bishop McDevitt grad, ‘Senior Man’ of the Weldon Fire Company, has passed away at 60

Mr. Brian Michael Conway, a Glenside resident, 1984 Bishop McDevitt High School graduate, and longtime volunteer firefighter with the Weldon Fire Company, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, July 8. He was 60 years old.

“Brian quickly became a lifelong learner of firefighting and a powerful example of a true leader. He mentored many young men simply by teaching, guiding and demonstrating how to live a life of exemplary service in helping others,” his obituary said.

A life member with Weldon, Mr. Conway was known as the company’s “Senior Man”.

“Every fire department has a position that is not promoted into, is not appointed, and is not elected. This position is filled by the firefighter who assumes it. The position is Senior Man, and Weldon has lost its Senior Man,” Weldon Fire Company said in a post. “The Senior Man is a mentor, a leader, a teacher, and a true friend. He leads by example. He is a true student of the fire service, always learning, always questioning, and always passing his knowledge to other firefighters. He is a presence at the firehouse, and no matter what the time of day, Brian’s presence was always felt. When the Senior Man departs, there is a void that isn’t filled quickly, but he has prepared his successor not to fill his shoes, but to stand on his shoulders. Brian’s impact on the firefighters at Weldon is immeasurable, and his influence will always be felt.”

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at William R. May Funeral Home located at 354 N Easton Road, Glenside, PA 19038.
