MontCo certifies general election results

The results from November 8’s general election were certified by a 2-1 vote in Norristown on Monday.

Montgomery County’s official report recorded a 68.49 percent voter turnout rate, 296,417 votes cast in person, 116,958 by mail or absentee ballot, and 2,567 provisional ballots for a total of 415,942 votes.

According to The Reporter, Democrats Ken Lawrence Jr. and Val Arkoosh voted in favor of certification, and Republican Commissioner Gale, long been a vocal critic of mail-in voting, opposed. Gale has reportedly rejected the results of previous elections.

“Since the passing of Act 77, which is Pennsylvania’s unconstitutional mail-in voting law, I have objected to the certification of every primary and general election thereafter,” Gale said. “As county commissioner, I took an oath to uphold the Pennsylvania Constitution and, thus, I cannot in good conscience vote to certify an election that illicitly permits no-excuse mail-in ballots.”

“We had a secure, free and fair election led by our Voter Services office and the hundreds of poll workers and tabulators who give their time to assist in running the election,” Lawrence said. “I am always honored to perform my constitutional duty to certify the votes of my fellow citizens.”

According to the County’s official database, Josh Shapiro and Austin Davis received a total of 285,712 votes by 8:00pm on November 8, and Doug Mastriano and Carrie Lewis DelRosso received a total of 121,289 votes.
