Meet Daniel Sierchio: Glenside’s storytelling visual artist for hire

Daniel Sierchio, a visual artist, author, and Glenside resident for 25+ years, is looking to highlight the best of Glenside with his camera.

A retired CPA and former treasurer for the Downtown Glenside Foundation, Daniel has been snapping pictures for more than six decades, and in his mind, he’s just getting started.

“It started when my uncle came back from WW2 Germany, and he gave me a camera. Another uncle had a dark room, so I was able to use his equipment,” Daniel said. “I eventually ended up building my own dark room.”

After dabbling in fashion photography, landscapes, theatrical photography, and other genres over the years, these days you can find Daniel and his camera on the streets of Glenside looking for a story. Check out his gallery of the DGF’s Arts Festival, which took place on Saturday, April 22.

“I’ve been working on street photography and people. My premise is documenting the story behind human interactions. That’s where my photography evolution has taken me,” he said. “Right now, I’m focusing on being a storyteller.”

Besides documenting Glenside’s events and happenings, Daniel is interested in doing corporate headshots and video editing.

“If there’s a small business that wants to get their message out, I’d like to help them do that. I’d like to collaborate with people around town,” he said. “I’d like to have small businesses that hire me to help put together 2-3 minute videos, that will then wind up on social media.”

Adding to his professional repertoire, Daniel published a book, A Walk with Sisyphus: An Existentialist Visual Tour, in 2020.

“I used the sayings from Albert Camus, a Nobel-prizing winning author who wrote about existentialism, to create images that represent those sayings,” Daniel, who has a Master’s in Health Planning and Administration from NYU, said.

“I’m really proud of Glenside, I love this town. There’s a nice history here, and I love learning about it. It’s given me plenty of opportunities,” he said.
