Man who fatally shot his wife in Rockledge sentenced to prison

Jose Luna, 59, of Philadelphia, was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison after admitting to fatally shooting of his wife, 48-year-old Alisett Schubert, on Saturday, February 21 in Rockledge, The Reporter said.

Luna pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree murder, person not to possess a firearm and possession of an instrument of crime.

During an interview with detectives, Luna stated that he and his wife they had been at a party earlier in the day and that he became angry at her because she “disrespected him in front of others,” The Reporter previously reported.

Detectives said he had an extensive criminal history, including arrests for robbery, burglary and grand theft.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Rockledge Borough Police Chief Michael Schmalz previously announced that the incident took place at Huntington Pike and Filmore streets after a SEPTA bus driver used his emergency system to report a shooting and a description of the shooter.

Police found Schubert on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside of her vehicle. She was pronounced dead at Abington Hospital, officials said.

According to a SEPTA driver who was driving southbound on Huntington Pike, two or three “pops” were heard before a male, later identified as Luna, exited the front passenger seat of the vehicle, opened the driver’s side door, and walked away. Schubert reportedly fell out of the vehicle.

The driver pulled over and called in the emergency and a description of Luna. Philadelphia police found him one mile away from the scene. As officers approached, Luna reportedly put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, but the firearm was out of ammunition. He was then arrested without incident, officials said.

The joint investigation by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and Rockledge police found that the firearm was registered to the victim.
