Man behind mausoleum door thefts in Jenkintown, Cheltenham, Lower Moreland, and Springfield has been arrested

Michael Evangelist, 37, of Philadelphia, is accused of stealing more than a dozen brass mausoleum doors worth more than $180,000 from cemeteries in Pennsylvania and Delaware, including Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Following a months-long investigation, police say Evangelist was behind the thefts in Cheltenham, Abington, Lower Moreland and Springfield.

Montefiore Cemetery in Jenkintown was hit on February 10. Forest Hills Cemetery in Huntingdon Valley had at least one door stolen as well.

Investigators allege that Evangelist cut up the doors before selling the metal, according to the Bucks County Courier Times.

Evangelist received 10 felony charges of burglary and theft and was sent to Bucks County Correctional Center in lieu of $5 million bail.

In 2023, he was arrested for his involvement in a multi-million-dollar organized criminal enterprise.
