Mausoleum doors—each of which weigh more than 200 pounds and worth more than $10,000—have been stolen from cemeteries in Philadelphia, Delaware, Bucks, and Montgomery counties over the last month, 6ABC reported.
According to the story, Montefiore Cemetery in Jenkintown was hit on February 10. Workers say three sets of mausoleum doors were stolen and the criminals tried to come back the next week.
“It was shocking, to say the least,” Samantha Bromley, general manager of Montefiore Cemetery, told 6ABC. “They had been taken off the hinges, the glass had been removed out of the window portion and set down.”
Forest Hills Cemetery in Huntingdon Valley had at least one door stolen as well. Police believe the crimes are related and those responsible are likely to try to scrap the precious metals, 6ABC said.
