A former Arcadia University men’s lacrosse player recently drowned in a York County lake, officials say

Jack Aaron Murray, a former student at Arcadia University in Wyncote/Glenside, drowned after he fell off of his paddleboard during a storm in Lake Marburg (York County) on Saturday, June 6. He was 24 years old.

According to CBS21, Murray didn’t resurface until 2:58pm Monday. The York County Coroner’s Office said he was not wearing a life vest at the time and that his death was ruled as an accidental drowning.

According to WGAL, a STAT MedEvac helicopter conducted an aerial search on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday for a missing paddleboarder. More than 70 people were involved, including crews from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and park rangers, using boats, kayaks, dogs, sonar, and other resources. The lake was closed from Saturday until Monday evening when the body was recovered.

Police are investigating the incident.

A Camp Hill (Cumberland County) native, Murray was an Arcadia student in 2023 and appeared in 13 men’s lacrosse games for the Knights. He transferred from Susquehanna University, where he was a student from 2021 to 2022. He transferred again to Methodist University for the 2024 season, according to his athletics bio.

He most recently was an assistant coach at Huntingdon College in Alabama. The school said, “he was exceedingly well-liked by our players and he carried the respect and appreciation of … everyone who worked alongside him.”
