Lynnewood Hall’s recent purchase highlighted by Philly Voice, Hidden City

On Monday, July 3, Philly Voice featured the recent purchase of Elkins Park’s Lynnewood Hall in an article titled, “Lynnewood Hall, the last Gilded Age mansion in the Philly area, to be restored.”

From the article:

The estate was the home of Peter A.B. Widener, the industrialist who helped modernize Philadelphia’s public transit system and was a founding partner in U.S. Steel and the American Tobacco Company. Designed by prominent Philly architect Horace Trumbauer — who also helped create the Philadelphia Museum of Art — Lynnewood Hall was built between 1897 and 1900 in the Neoclassical Revival style.

Hidden City, a Philly-based outlet, published an article titled, “Effort to Save Lynnewood Hall Takes a Big Step Forward With Sale” on Friday, June 30.

From the article:

The largest historic mansion in the area has an equally large to-do list. First up, “Roof repairs and fixing windows to keep the weather out,” said Thome, now executive director of LHPF. “Winters, and the water they bring, are hard on houses.”

Jennifer Robinson, board secretary of LHPF and director of preservation services at the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia added, “We’ve already started on asbestos remediation. Until that is done, we are limited on what parts of the house can be accessible to the public.”
