Lower Moreland police bid farewell to retiring Detective Halota

The Lower Moreland Police Department bid farewell to retiring Detective Holly Halota during a get-together in her honor on Friday, January 26.

Halota’s career with the Department began August 14, 1996. Among her career accolades was a special thank you from Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele for her “tireless coordination of a multi-jurisdictional church burglary investigation that began in February 2020.” She worked with Sgt. Ryan Duntzee of the Abington Township Police Department during the investigation which resulted in the defendant being found guilty in December 2021.

In 2002, then-officer Halverson (her maiden name) was honored for uncovering a multistate drug distribution operation after she pulled over a man for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The bust resulted in the recovery of $30,000 in drug money, the seizure of 3,250 Quaalude pills with a street value of about $160,000, and the arrests of 17 drug traffickers, the Reporter said.

“It wound up snowballing,” said Halverson. “Everybody turned in everybody else, and eventually the D.E.A.’s office in New York arrested the suspected ringleader.”

“Many coworkers, peers, and former LMPD officers were there to help send her off to start her next chapter. Her presence, commitment, dedication, and work ethic will surely be missed around the station. We wish her the best on her journey!” the Department said in a Facebook post.
