Lower Moreland boys’ tennis captures district title, heads to PIAA state tournament | Girls’ lacrosse could make district playoffs for the first time ever

The Lower Moreland High School boys’ tennis team took home the District 1-2A championship, the district announced on Wednesday.

The boys defeated Delaware County Christian School 4-1 on Monday at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

The Lions won the league title in April. They move on to the PIAA state tournament next week.

In related news, the Lower Moreland High School girls’ lacrosse team was featured by The Times Herald for the program’s remarkable turnaround this season.

After winning one game in 2022 and two games in 2023, the Lions won eight games in 2024, the most in a single season since the program started in 1978, according to the article.

“The biggest thing that we’ve been able to do and has really helped take us to the next level is focusing on the little things,” LM coach Steve Wittmer said. “Focus on the little things, one aspect of the game at a time. In the past two years it has made a huge difference.”

A program which has never seen a spot in District 1 playoffs, the Lions are currently 15th in the District 1-2A standings. The top 16 teams qualify, and teams have until May 12 to play games that count for seeding.
