Lawyer representing family of man fatally shot by Abington police to file lawsuit in federal court following DA’s investigation

The family of Wyleek Tinsley continues to ask for transparency regarding the March 6 shooting at the Rosemore Gardens apartment complex in the Glenside section of Abington Township, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

On Monday, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced that the incident’s investigation found that Abington Township police officers’ use of force was deemed lawful.

A Philadelphia-based lawyer representing Tinsley’s family said that Steele’s office has denied requests to view bodycam footage, which so far has not been shown to “the family, to the attorneys, and, more importantly, why can’t the public and media see it so they can be the trier of fact and form their own opinions on it?”, The Inquirer quotes.

The family’s lawyer said he plans to file a civil rights lawsuit in federal court next week in order to subpoena the video.

The family of Tinsley publicly requested the release of police bodycam footage from the shooting last week.
