Upper Moreland police welcome new officer, Springfield High seniors receive David G. Kelble, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The Upper Moreland Police Department announced that Officer Michael Capobianco was sworn in before the Board of Commissioners following four weeks of in-house training.

Officer Capobianco joins the department from the Philadelphia Police Department (six years of service) and the Army National Guard (eight years of service).

On June 1, he began three months of on-the-job training while paired with a Field Training Officer, the department said.

In related news, the Flourtown Fire Company announced that Springfield Township High School senior students Jack Sarsfield and Joseph Houser were awarded the David G. Kelble, Jr. Memorial Scholarship on behalf of the non-profit Helmets off 4 David.

The award is giving annually to a graduating student in memory of David G. Kelble, Jr., a 1998 graduate of Abington High School and an Abington Township Fire Department volunteer.

Sarsfield, Houser, and fellow Springfield High seniors Bryce McManus and Brody Malfara were also presented with the Service to School award at the Springfield High School Senior Award Ceremony.

“These four seniors have shown service to school and community over the years. We look forward to your continued service and seeing you grow in your future endeavors,” the company said in a post.
