Lady Zebra Comedy, a new stand-up comedy and open mic series, has come to the Zebra Room—nicknamed for its zebra-patterned carpet—within the Keswick Theater in Glenside.
Emlyn McFarland, a Wyncote resident, has been running the series with fellow comic Delia Amendolia of Philadelphia since February 28.
“The first four shows were packed. We’ve been lucky to have a lot of people in the area host the open mic, one of whom is the new owner of the former Dovetail Artisans location in Glenside,” McFarland said. “We’ve had younger comics come out from the city. They’ve told us they love doing it because the audience is full of people who are genuinely enjoying the show.”
McFarland’s idea for the series has been a long time coming. A former improv performer in New York City and DC, she also tried her hand at stand-up comedy and wanted to bring the experience to Glenside.
“It had always been in the back of my mind,” she said. “Then I noticed this wonderful room within the Keswick Theater and thought I’d give it a shot.”
The shows are free, McFarland says, noting that audience donations help pay the performers.
