Jenkintown resident and longtime influential community activist, Stephen Honeyman, died Monday, Sept. 20 at the age of 69, due to a diabetes related infection.

In 1985, he helped found helped found Camden Churches Organized for People (CCOP) and while in that organization, he fought for improved healthcare, an improved economy, and for reduced crime in Camden. In 1993 he was also was the founder and director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Organizing Project (EPOP), fighting for the same ends but in Philadelphia neighborhoods.

Inspired by Saul Alinsky, a well-known Chicago-based community activist who died in 1972, and others, Mr. Honeyman founded and worked with many groups that sought to make life better for people dealing with poverty, housing issues, the opioid crisis, and other critical social problems.

On November 6th, a service is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Holman Field, behind the Germantown Mennonite Church, at 58 W. Pomona St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19144.
