Jenkintown Borough Council is seeking to fill a vacancy in its First Ward. Dr. Kim McGlonn, a Jenkintown resident and longtime member of Borough Council, announced her resignation in September.
“She was a big help to us with a lot of things. Very smart, intelligent person,” Borough manager George Locke said. “We’re going to miss her. She helped a lot with getting Moretti Park off the ground. She was also involved with the search for the Chief of Police. She spear-headed that.”
In February, Dr. McGlonn opened a thrift store in Philly called Black Ivy Thrift. In 2017, Dr. McGlonn founded Philly-based Grant Blvd, a sustainable clothing company that supports those impacted by the criminal justice system. In 2021, Grant Blvd was awarded a BeyGood grant by Beyonce and the NAACP.
“I believe she’s moving out of the Borough. She’s very active, and I believe she’s going to be involved more on a national level in terms of what she’s doing in Philadelphia. She’s often in the paper for her involvement,” Locke said.
This temporary appointment to Council will be in compliance with State Borough Code, State Election laws and the person appointed will serve for a period of time until the seat is confirmed at a local Municipal Election.
Interested persons must be a registered elector living in the First Ward of Jenkintown Borough for at least one year. Letters of interest and Resumes should be submitted by 5:00pm on Sunday October 15.
